Salt in the Air: The Mars Volta & System of a Down

Well it's roughly eight in the morning now and I'm fully awake. The Volta's show was great. It always could be longer though. I was surprised to see that they played four songs. I only expected two but then again they were in long beach.

SMOKERS: Did they check your fag packs? Security at the door asked to check my smokes, so I let him and he said, "You're gonna have to throw those away" I didn't acknowledge the bastard and walked to the ticket taker. What could he do? He really had no legal right to search my smokes pack. I expected to be tackled any minute but he didn't and I got in without a hiccup.

First let me say, that I was lame for thinking that the seats would be good. I had to dance in my chair, as much a one could really dance in those chairs (Shake head)

I didn't know that Frusciante had come out to play on L'via, though I had predicted it before the show and during that song I thought damn, those solo's are sounding great. Caught up in the groove, I was. I'm nearly blind and can't see much any ways.

Intermission

The bathroom wait was horrible and I almost pissed on myself. A few smart fuckers were going in the exit, effing brilliant though inconsiderate.

Rum on Ice, with a slice of lemon. Thanks to that bartender I got a free double because he said I made him laugh when in reality I had insulted his rum pouring skills. Though the girls attributed it to being in L.B. It didn't matter either way.

During the first part of SOAD our group stood somewhere near our seats in the aisle. This was lame, but I can't get angry about it. Amidst the ending of a song, I told them "I'll see you on the floor." I'm sure they doubted that I would reach it. However a quick walk down stairs and a $10 tip to the security got me in and out for the rest of the night, or the rest of SOAD's set, though the crowd got massive as it got later and I had managed to get out and explore the rest of the arena.

I was now looking down watch them play and was nearly behind them. I spoke with another security guard and asked him about the show: "What do you think of these bands?" He was an older Mexican fellow and what he said about The Mars Volta hit it right on the money, at least for me. He said those guys are damn good musicians and admired them. He himself was a six-string strummer. I'm sure he enjoyed the hybrid of cultures and vibrations intertwining. As it was, unfortunately coming to an end.

*Do you know about that Mars will be as big as the moon in August? The irony!
